Tanga Regional Police Commander, Leonard Paulo said that the accident occurred on the road heading to Mabanda ya Papa and Sumaia Group areas in the outskirts of the city when the deceased was negotiating through a flooded section of the road.
The RPC said that the man, identified as Amani Ruta, was unfortunate as his vehicle couldn’t withstand the speeding flood waters. The deceased was working with Tanga Cement located a few kilometers from the city.
He also that ongoing rains have destroyed a number of infrastructures as well as displacing more than 200 people who have put up camps in school buildings after their buildings were flooded with rainwater.
Paulo mentioned areas which were highly affected with floods as Sahare,Magomeni and Magaoni where more than 200 households have been rendered homeless.
Early this month, Tanzania Metrological Agency (TMA) issued forecasts warning that the April heavy rain season will likely cause floods in some parts of the country
